Very Good brown 3/4 leather binding with purple-brown cloth-covered boards. Gilt lettering on front and spine. Covers have a few small stains, light rubbing, a small chip at tail of spine along front joint, and moderate rubbing and wear along spine, else clean and intact. Binding somewhat loosened but still strong and holding. Pages have light age toning and the small occasional mark or stain, else clean and intact. Replete with beautiful black-and-white engraved illustrations. A compendium of historical information about the cultures of ancient cities and civilizations including, but not limited to, Pompeii, the ancient Roman Empire, Troy, Nineveh, Babylon, and Assyria.
