Notes: Fine book in a Near Fine slipcase, 4to, 11 1/4" x 9," No. 173 of 200 deluxe copies of 3,200 total copies. Bound in chestnut leather with gilt decorations to front panel, gilt tile to spine, previous owner luthier Albert C. Muller's stamp twice to front decorated endpaper in small type. Chestnut slipcase exhibiting only minor wear to tips, missing glassine. 47 plates illustrating 241 bows. 335 pp., including biographical list of bow makers. This text is a seminal luthier reference book compiled by Chicago violinist Joseph Madison Roda (1894–1970). Includes detailed illustrations prepared by Gladys Mickel Bell. Roda, a Czech immigrant, was a violinist with the Chicago Grand Opera Company and the Chicago Symphony was a violinist, cellist, music educator, and salesperson at William Lewis and Son.
