Fine quarto, blue marbled board with white back strip and gold stamped title to spine, blue gilt to top. Very Good cream and navy slipcase with decorative label to title edge, mild sunning, wear, sunning to the open edge of the slip case, soiling (perhaps light-colored paint), mild rubbing to the tips. Original monthly newspaper, October 1962, number 346, envelope between front pastedown and front free endpaper, 268 pp. Full-color images made by gravure and then colored by hand, illustrated by Edward D. Wilson, an American illustrator and printmaker who designed many classic novel covers. An introduction by Ray Bradbury, an American author and screenwriter who worked in a variety of genres. A thrilling tale of adventure and ingenuity in a beautifully crafted volume that’s as much a literary journey as it is a collector’s treasure.

The Limited Editions Club was founded by publisher George Macy in 1929 with goal of delivering a monthly fine press edition of great works in literature, religion, history, philosophy, and poetry. The press worked with some of the best printers in the US and Europe, and sought the best artists to illustrate runs of 1500 or 2000 copies.
