Near Fine, bound in burgundy aniline leather with cloth boards in a floral pattern, gilt edges. Laid in loose is the Monthly Letter to the Limited Editions Club number 536. Very Good + slipcase, plum colored, moderate sunning to edges, 103 pp. 4 full-page illustrations by William Bailey, with an original etching at the front. Introduction by John Hollander. A masterful exploration of changing American society and the decline of the frontier, accompanied here by William Bailey’s illustrations and etchings, which beautifully capture the novel’s themes of nostalgia, transformation, and loss.
The Limited Editions Club was founded by publisher George Macy in 1929 with goal of delivering a monthly fine press edition of great works in literature, religion, history, philosophy, and poetry. The press worked with some of the best printers in the US and Europe, and sought the best artists to illustrate runs of 1500 or 2000 copies.
