Ginzburg, Ralph [ed.], et al. New York: Avant-Garde Media, 1974.
English, Good, Ephemera, 16" x 11 1/2", 24 pp.
Pictorial folded newspaper-like magazine, quarter-folded, as originally released. Delicate pages, minor toning, some chips, tears, and wear to fold and edges, chip to front panel, slightly effecting image, faint marks from rubbing throughout, postal label sticker, and stored in a plastic sleeve. 24 pp. Includes color images to front spread and black-and-white images throughout. From the magazine's website: "Avant Garde is a seminal, but somewhat overlooked by a wider public, magazine, which broke taboos, rattled some nerves and made a few enemies...It represents the third major collaboration between Ralph Ginzburg and Herb Lubalin, the magazine’s talented art director." This singular newspaper prototype of the magazine features a selection of art from Roy Carruthers, centerspread wood engraving by M.C. Escher, cartoons by Ian Gall, discussion of Hugh Hefner's book, and much more.
