In response to questions of borrowing and appropriation, Bettleheim writes, "All of the artists in 'Borrowed Embellishments' participate in a post modern attitude that enables them to 'collect the world.' But they are not traditional modernists because they do not mystify or deny this proclivity. Their titles, their statements, and the art itself respectfully transforms sources without denying them." This catalog was published in conjunction with an exhibition held at the Kansas City Art Institute Charlotte Crosby Kemper Gallery March 20-April 18, 1987. Scarce in the trade.
