Very Good + blue cloth over boards, gilt lettering and illustration to cover, gilt lettering to spine, textblock with deckled fore edges, head and tail of spine and fore-tips bumped and rubbed, interior age toning to pastedown edges, else clean, intact, tightly bound, and unmarked throughout. Fair condition light blue dustjacket is sun-faded, chipped at all edges, price sticker ghost to front cover, tape over closed tears, gilt lettering to cover and spine, protected in a paper-backed Mylar sleeve. 130 pp. Replete with full-color images by Luis Choris from first-person observation of Native people, as well as facsimile letters and handwritten notes, here translated into English, and maps. Includes an Introduction by the editor John Galvin, Prologue from the journal of Father Miguel De La Campa, the journal of Father Vicente Santa Maria and the accompanying map, excerpt from the journal of Juan De Ayala, a letter from Captain Ayala to the Viceroy Bucareli, the report of Jose De Canizares to Captain Ayala with accompanying maps and engravings, excerpts from Father Crespi's account of the earlier Fages Expedition with map, a Glossary, References, and an Index.
