Laid in is a letter written in the same ink as the signature, presumably to fellow artists Bill and Paul about a collector they all have in common. Donald Roller Wilson was an early forerunner of the pop-surreal movement, combining classical and photoreal technique with absurdist, anthropomorphized animals as subjects in service of satirical storytelling.
