Good 12mo (4 3/4" x 7") 3/4 contemporary vellum, marbled paper over boards, bumping to tips, rubbing to top edges, bottom edges, and fore edges, green-and-white headbands intact and in good shape, binding a little loose, but overall intact and holding, exterior stained by handling, many pages showing staining, toning, and foxing, but overall these books are remarkably well-preserved. Institutiones Historiae Christianae Antiquioris (Volume 1, 1737) front gutter split between first free endpaper and title page, written text on spine illegible,840 pp. a3-a4 Dedicatio, a5-[a11] Lectoribus s. & o. beginning with a second title page stating, "Illustrissimi Magnae Britanniae Regis in Terris Germanicis Status Ministro et Consiliario Intimo Praefacto Item Supremo Ducatus Lunebrugensis. SVO, Litterarumqu Patrono S.P.D.IO. Laur. Moshemius." a-[A15] Praeparatio titled, "IO. Laurentii Moshemii Insttutiones Historiae Ecclesiasticae Novi Testamenti." Handwriting to first side of first free endpaper appears to be Latin, revious owner's name and personal library notation written on back side of first free endpaper (A.J. Case #1240). Incomplete needlepoint project on 3" wide maroon satin ribbon laid-in ("To my dear aunt"). Institutiones Historiae Christianae Recentioris (Volume 2, 1741) 771 pp. + 79 pp. Index + 12 pp. Praefatio titled, "Lectoribus s. Et o." Title page is on heavier paper. A-A3 Praeparatio begins with title page that reads, "1OH. Laur. Moshemii Institutiones Historiae Christianae Recentioris." Pages 336-340 very heavily staned, though text is still visible and readable. Dampstaining to top edge mostly affecting Praefatio. Previous owner name and personal library notation handwritten inside front cover at pastedown (A.J. Case No. 1241). Handwriting to spine mostly illegible, but could be "L. Moshemy Historia Christiana antiquior. T II". Laurentii Moshemii was a lauded German Lutheran preacher, theologian, and church historian. These books were acquired from a descendant of AJ Case who is thought to have been a traveling preacher.
