Text in German. No date, circa 1870. Very Good green cloth-covered boards with gilt lettering on front and spine, color illustration on front. Covers have splits on front and back outer joints measuring about 2" from head and tail of spine, slight wear to extremities, light to moderate rubbing, and several scratches on back, else clean and intact. Binding somewhat loosened but still strong and holding. Pages have light age toning, else pristine and intact. Replete with black-and-white full-page plates and in-text illustrations. Beautiful folio-sized edition of Oberon, the famous epic poem by Christoph Martin Wieland. The poem is a drama and romance about Huon, Duke of Guienne, who must atone for his sin of slaying Karl the Great's son, Charlot. Central to the story is the otherworldly Oberon and his consort, Titania. This edition has much visual appeal with beautiful covers and meticulously detailed illustrations interspersed throughout the poem.
