Published in conjunction with an exhibition of Edgar Payne's work The Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento February 11 to May 6, 2012 that then traveled to The Pasadena Museum of California Art and finally to the Gilcrease Museum in Tulsa, Oklahoma. From the dustjacket: "While his contemporaries favored a quieter, more idyllic representation of thr natural landscape, Payne was devoted subjects of rugged beauty...His majestic, vital landscapes, informed by his reverence for the natural world, are imbued with an internal force and an active dynamism."
