Blue leatherette cloth over card, stamped  faded gilt lettering to cover and spine, edgewear, some chipping to edges, light soiling to covers and spine, dogeared first free endpaper and front pastedown, otherwise tightly bound and unmarked throughout. Previous owner signature to first free endpaper and rear pastedown. Minor soiling and folding to some pages. [xxii] 585 pp. replete with black-and-white illustrations, photographs, and instructional diagrams, full-color pages include frontispiece illustration, two-page Distinctive Flags and Penants graphic, and Small Craft, Storm, and Hurricane Warnings symbols. This is the basic handbook for United States Navy personnel, first issued in 1902 to teach new recruits about naval procedures and life and offer a reference for active sailors. It remains the go-to guide for Navy personnel, providing information about a wide range of Naval topics. While new editions are still in print, this 12th edition, produced during wartime, greatly expands on previous editions.
