English, Very Good, SC, 8vo, 11" x 9 1/2"

Stiff orange staplebound wraps featuring images of sword guards to front and back cover, black and green lettering, some shelfwear, color loss from rubbing, light exterior creasing around staples, else clean, tightly bound, staples showing no oxidization, and unmarked throughout. Unpaginated, 451 single entries, each with a full description, most with images. Replete with black-and-white images of fine tsuba (elaborately decorated Japanese sword guards) dating from 1400 to 1900, other Japanese sword metal fittings and accessory weaponry including Kamakura period kogai and menuki, fine fuchi-kashira, kozuka, Ryu-gashira no hachi, as well as wood block prints, and books. This catalog was published on the occasion of an auction and exhibition held at Gallery 3044 in San Francisco, over three days in April, 1982. Includes a Preface with text taken from the 1960 publication "Treatise on the Art of Tsuba" by Dr. Kazutaro Torigoye, as well as bidding guides, and several pages of advertisements for Bay Area Japanese art, books, food, and sword care. An invaluable guide for the collector, scholar, metallurgist, and enthusiast.
