Very Good hardcover in black leatherette over white paper. Some toning to spine and edges, minor wear to tips, ex-libris label to first page, and light interior soiling. A beautifully produced edition of the only complete novel by the macabre American short-story writer and poet, Edgar Allan Poe that follows a young man aboard a whaling ship, illustrated with black ink illustrations by illustrator René Clarke. Includes an Introduction by American author, critic, and naturalist, Joseph Wood Krutch. Good blue pictorial paper slipcase with a sailboat illustration to front panel, notable toning, tears to corners of open edge, some edgewear, minor soiling, limitation number written in pen to spine, else intact.
The Limited Editions Club was founded by publisher George Macy in 1929 with goal of delivering a monthly fine press edition of great works in literature, religion, history, philosophy, and poetry.
