Near Fine + folio, 10" x 13", bound in Aniline black leather with blind-stamped title to front, black text block edge, minor wear to boards due to the snug fit of the slipcase, otherwise pristine. Printed by Bruce Chandler and Daniel Keleher. Illustrated with eight silk screens by Lawrence, protected by laid in tissue guard. Housed in a Very Good black cloth slipcase, some sunning and dust stain, small spot of light staining to bottom edge, possibly paint transfer from a bookshelf, but no tears, still sharp and structurally sound. Laid in loose is the Limited Editions Club Newsletter number 535 in Near Fine condition.

John Hersey's singular book depicting the horror of the American bombing of Hiroshima during World War II, first published in The New Yorker. in its entirety in 1946. Complemented by Robert Penn Warren's poem New Dawn: Hiroshima written exclusively for this edition. Illustrated by African American artist, Jacob Lawrence, arguably one of the most important American artists of the 20th Century. An exquisite collaboration between three brilliant creators attempting to tackle one of the worst single acts of war in human history. This edition also includes an updated Afterword by Hersey based on more recent documentation and correspondence. Signed by Hersey, Lawrence, and Warren in pencil at the copywrite page. Laid in loose is a Fine copy of the Monthly Newsletter of the Limited Editions Club number 535 and care instructions for the leather binding.

    The Limited Editions Club was founded by publisher George Macy in 1929 with goal of delivering a monthly fine press edition of great works in literature, religion, history, philosophy, and poetry. The press worked with some of the best printers in the US and Europe, and sought the best artists to illustrate runs of 1500 or 2000 copies.
