Beautifully produced edition of English 17th-century poet, polemicist, and civil servant, John Milton's Paradise Lost, a XII (12) book poem and biblical epic tale written in blank verse, which questions things such as human agency and the idea of good and evil, following Satan's successful temptation of Adam and Eve and the fall of man. The IV (4) books of Paradise Regain'd make up the brief epic poem that follows similar religious themes as its predecessor by telling the tale of Christ's ability to resist Satan's temptations, while also including the closet drama, Samson Agonistes. Accompanied by the stunning illustrations by American artist Carlotta Petrina, who has received notable recognition and was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1933 for this body of work. Introduction by, American poet, writer, and editor, William Rose Benét. Published by Canadian fine printer, John Henry Nash. Signed by Petrina at the colophon.

The Limited Editions Club was founded by publisher George Macy in 1929 with goal of delivering a monthly fine press edition of great works in literature, religion, history, philosophy, and poetry. The press worked with some of the best printers in the US and Europe, and sought the best artists to illustrate runs of 1500 or 2000 copies. Amatoria has acquired ~100 Limited Edition Club titles, to see more, visit the collection on our website.
