Fine tall quarto in pale red cloth with gilt title to spine, brass rooster affixed to front, full-color illustrations and adornments by Edmund Dulac. Original glassine in Fine condition aside from one spot of foxing. Contained in a Very Good decorated portfolio, sunned to spine, housed in Good + red paper slipcase, substantial sunning, some scuffing but no splitting or bruising to corners. Romantic era poet, playwright, and novelist Alexander Pushkin's 1835 fairytale vividly rendered by Golden Age illustrator, Edmund Dulac, signed by Dulac on the copyright page.
The Limited Editions Club was founded by publisher George Macy in 1929 with goal of delivering a monthly fine press edition of great works in literature, religion, history, philosophy, and poetry. The press worked with some of the best printers in the US and Europe, and sought the best artists to illustrate runs of 1500 or 2000 copies.
