Red cloth, gilt embossed spine, affixed pictorial front panel with textured image inset in center. Maps + numerous full color illustrations of plants and country scenes throughout. Housed in large, heavy felt-lined custom 9” x 12” clamshell box. Originally published in three volumes from 1938 to 1940 with a one volume selection appearing in 1944. Francis Kilvert’s account of daily life as a country clergyman before his death at age thirty nine is considered one of the finest diaries in the English language. Plomer’s selection gives a vivid picture of life in the English countryside in Mid-Victorian times.
