Black paper-covered boards in a multicolored pictorial paper dust jacket. Black-and-white lettering on dust jacket spine. Covers have slight wear to extremities, else pristine and intact, binding tight. Dust jacket has light rubbing and a small closed tear at bottom edge on front panel measuring about 1/2", else pristine and intact, not price-clipped. Dust jacket protected in a paper-backed Mylar sleeve. Pages pristine and intact. Replete with illustrations in black-and-white and color. An incisive monograph about the silhouette or shadow portrait. Included are discussions about the origins of the shadow portrait, stylistic changes to these portraits over time, and the shadow portrait in Britain and the United States. Authored by Emma Rutherford with a Foreword by Lulu Guinness. Illustrated herein are many examples of silhouettes that show a variety of subjects including portraits of historical figures, portraits of Queen Victoria's dog, and imaginative scenes. This is possibly the First American Edition as there is a note on the back copyright page about the title being first published in the U.S. in 2009 and there is a printer's key beginning with "10" and ending in "1"; however, the latest publication year on the same page is 2012, so this may be the 2009 or 2012 edition.
