Gerald Walburg original drawing on archival brown paper, conte pencil and pastel, measures 22" x 30," in excellent condition. SIGNED and dated 11-24-86. Acquired directly from the artist. In this drawing which was part of a series, Walburg explores opposing shapes, tension proximity, and negative space. While this drawing is not a study for sculpture, it has elements of his steel fabrications but executed with a figure drawing approach blended with abstraction. About the artist:
Sacramento artist Gerald Walburg (1936-)was born in Berkeley, CA, a graduate of UC Davis and former teacher at California State University Sacramento. His contemporaries include artists like Wayne Thiebaud, Roy De Forest, and Jack Ogden. Walburg is known primarily for his large scale steel and public pieces including works featured at San Jose State, San Francisco General Hospital, the Crocker Museum and he has watercolors in the permanent collection at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. He is currently starting an arts foundation in Sacramento to provide performance and studio space through artist residencies.
