Ruth Asawa (1926-2013) was a Bay-Area avant-garde sculptor and installation artist whose wire-patterned suspension sculptures seem to defy gravity. She hailed from the Black Mountain School, studying under Joseph Albers and Buckminster Fuller, and went on to become a powerful teacher and advocate, starting art programs in over 50 schools. Christie's was the sole executor of the Ruth Asawa Estate until 2017, when it was acquired by David Zwirner. A scarce copy.
