Borges, Jorge Luis, Portland Maine: Anthoesen Press for Limited Editions Club, 1984. #1393/1500, Fine square quarto, xxxii + 306 pp. Illustrated, designed, and signed by Sol Lewitt.

Fine square quarto bound in black leather with blind-stamped title to spine, black endpapers. Introduction by Alexander Coleman. 22 black-and-white illustrations by Lewitt, silkscreened by Jo Watanabe. Housed in a Near Fine black paper-covered slipcase, some scuffing and shelfwear but sharp tips, no tears, functional and attractive. The experimental masterwork of Argentinian author, poet, and founder of postmodernism illuminated by American minimalist, printer, and designer. Both innovators in their field, Borges and Lewitt explore abstract spaces, pushing art, literature, and philosophy forward. A handsome, well-preserved copy worthy of a collector's library.

The Limited Editions Club was founded by publisher George Macy in 1929 with goal of delivering a monthly fine press edition of great works in literature, religion, history, philosophy, and poetry. The press worked with some of the best printers in the US and Europe, and sought the best artists to illustrate runs of 1500 or 2000 copies. Amatoria has acquired ~100 Limited Edition Club titles, to see more, visit the collection on our website.
