The monograph of the Scottish and American photographer, Alexander Gardner, most known for his work documenting events during the American Civil War, is dedicated to his work specifically in the West from 1867 to 1868, subjects including a variety of landscapes, to group photographs, of and with, the many Native American tribes he encountered. Published in conjunction with the exhibition of the same name at The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City from July 25, 2014 to January 11, 2015, possible with the new addition of the Hallmark Photographic Collection. Beautifully produced book that showcases Gardner's historically important documentative photography, as he was tasked to record important talks between tribes in the Wyoming territory and peace commission government representatives.
