 Folio with loose leaves laid in. Brown paper-covered boards backed with brown cloth. String closure to fore-edge. Folio clean and intact overall with some temperature waffling, scratches, and slight rubbing. Leaves clean and intact with age toning. Signature and address from a former owner, Betty Machin, written in black ink on the inside of the front board. Title page and Plates 1-6 also have “B. Machin” signed at the top, not affecting text or illustrations. 50 black-and-white plates, complete. A folio containing 50 black-and-white leaves, each being a plate showing the muscles and skeletal structure of the human body with accompanying labels and terminology. Walter Farrington Moses (1874-1947) was an American artist known principally for his landscape paintings. Here, he showcases his knowledge of the human form in different poses and illustrated and explained. Moses was also an instructor at the Fashion School of Illustrating in Chicago and was the director of the California Art Club in 1922. Scarce in the trade, a handsome edition to any science library.
