Includes a laid-in piece of ephemera: 10 1/4" x 7 1/2" white pictorial 9-page booklet titled "Netsuke Kenkyukai" from Study Journal, Issue No.1 April, 1980, replete with black-and-white images, "Contemporary Netsuke News Notes," and essays by Betty Killam, Richard Silverman, and Elaine Ehrenkranz. From the Preface: "There is a purpose to this exhibition and to this catalogue which I hope will be able to stand on its own as more than merely a record of the pieces exhibited. It is an attempt both to define and explain my own chosen direction as a student of, and serious dealer in netsuke, and an area of netsuke for collectors which has not only been badly and consistently underrated, but which in my opinion is far more worthwhile than the classic areas, which are much-lauded, over-valued, and ultimately wearisome, as much for the circus and money-snobbery fantasy world surrounding them as for their derivative, familiar appeal." Heavy and oversized items may require additional shipping.
