This catalog was created for the exhibition at the Baruch College Gallery, City University of New York held November 15 to December 20, 1985, and at the School of Art Gallery, Louisiana State University February 2 to 21, 1986. The exhibition featured work from many more artists including Romare Bearden, Warren Brandt, Fritz Bullmann, Lois Dodd, Edward Dumore, Lester Johnson, Linda Lindeberg, Michael Loew, Mercedes Matter, Stephen Pace, Betty Parsons, Jack Rabinowitz, Thomas Sills, Sal Sirugo, Nora Speyer and Alice Yamin. From the essay: :The figure paintings and drawings in this exhibition manifest the moment-by-moment quality of being alive in the world. In much the same way that Braque and Picasso used traditional genres - portrait and still life - for their radical experiments in Cubism, the artists in this exhibit rendered another traditional subject - the human figure - with the freedom and spontaneity, the sense of immediacy, that lies at the heart of action painting."
