Notes: A Good copy. Text is in French. 11 3/4" x 9." 3/4 white leather binding and gray paper-covered boards. Clean and intact overall, pages are slightly age-toned. Binding is loose with splitting along the gutter in several places. Leather portions are darkened but mostly at the spine. Surface tear on the paper-covered portion of the front board. Text block very clean and intact. All pages of text and plates are complete. 118 pp. + 55 unpaginated leaves of black-and-white plates. A beautiful book replete with reprinted illustrations of artwork by Frans Hals. Table of Contents in the back lists the four sections: biographical study of Hals’s life, catalog of his art, genealogical diagram, and a list of plates. Frans Hals was a Dutch Golden Age painter. Hals became well-known for his individual and group portraiture of aristocracy.
