Gottfried Helnwein (b. 1948) is an Austrian-Irish photographer, painter, sculptor, and performance artist. Much of his art focuses on social and political issues. He is perhaps best-known for depicting wounded and murdered children as a way to indict perpetrators of horrific events in history, such as the rise of Nazism and the Holocaust.
