Japanese Language, Very Good Octavo SC 8" x 8  1/4" unpaginated

Very Good softcover bound in glossy pictorial white wraps, yellow lettering to front cover, wear to bottom of spine, and to hinge, not affecting tight binding, tear with 1" loss to bottom edge of plate 164 affecting verso plate 165. Otherwise clean, bright, unmarked, and tightly bound. Replete with full color and monochrome images of over 160 of Yozo Hamaguchi's mezzotint prints dating from 1937 to 1969. Hamaguchi is credited with the resurgence of international interest in the process of mezzotint as a printmaking practice. This book was produced in conjunction with an exhibition held April 26 to May 15, 1985 at the Yurakucho Seibu Art Forum, and then June 20 to July 30, 1985 at the National Museum of Art, Osaka. Text is almost entirely in Japanese, with duo-lingual English and Japanese titles and exhibition checklist. Beautifully produced catalog showcasing a wide array of Hamaguchi's stylized portraits, still lifes, and abstracted landscapes. This was the first major retrospective in Japan to include such a large number of Hamaguchi's pieces on the wall together.
