Notes: Very Good perfectbound 10" x 9 1/2" Volume II of artist Shoichi Ida's Catalogue Raisonne of paper works created between 1983 and 1988. Stiff glossy cream textured wraps with 4" diameter die-cut circle in front cover bordered by facsimile sketch marks, white on black titling visible through a translucent vellum endpaper, facsimile thumbprint to center fore edge front and back, black lettering to spine, facsimile circular sketch to back cover. Toning to covers, soiling to spine and back cover, minor spots to covers, else tightly bound, page edges toned throughout, otherwise clean and unmarked, and showing no other visible wear. 146 pp. includes a full-page black-and-white photograph of the artist in 1988 by Hashimoto Fumiyoshi, an article by Kenneth Baker on Ida Shoichi's "Garden Project-Locus Sutra" further speculating on the use of the Latin word Locus (place) aside an allusion to the Lotus Sutra, an article by Yoshiaki Inui on the "Karma" paper works, Plates rendered in sumptuous full-color, a Catalogue Raisonne covering 1983-88 with black-and-white images (a note states 150 works are missing), a Selected Chronological Biography, and a Selected Bibliography. Also includes a poem by the artist on his relationship to fossils, and a short, but rare, first-person statement on the concept of "Surface is the Between" on the last free end paper. These are precious insights into the philosophical impetus and creative drive behind these beautiful and enigmatic works by a monumentally influential, though notoriously publicity-averse, artist. Heavy and oversized items may require additional shipping.
