This text is a seminal luthier reference book compiled by Chicago violinist Joseph Madison Roda (1894–1970). Includes detailed illustrations prepared by Gladys Mickel Bell. Roda, a Czech immigrant, was a violinist with the Chicago Grand Opera Company and the Chicago Symphony was a violinist, cellist, music educator, and salesperson at William Lewis and Son.
