Notes: Very Good in pictorial wraps featuring a photographic detail of Emile Galle's masterpiece "Lamp: les Coprins" to the cover, white text to cover, spine and back panel, some scuffing and rubbing to front and back covers, some shelf wear to edges, else clean, tightly bound and unmarked throughout. TEXT IS PRIMARILY IN JAPANESE with some short segments in French, 10" x 9 1/2", replete with full-color images of a wide selection of Art Nouveau glass in the Kitazawa Museum's collection. Each catalogued piece includes full images as well as detail images, and each piece is accompanied by a short description including the artist and title, materials and technique used, dimensions and dates of production. 137 pp. including introductions by museum founder Toshio Kitazawa and French diplomat Xavier Daufresne de la Chevalerie. Also includes a fascinating little overview of the technique of layering glass using an image of a vase overlaid with transparencies, an index of glass working techniques, a pictorial step-by-step of techniques, a comparative essay of Japanese painting and French glass, a Bibliography, and a timeline. Kitazawa Art Gallery was founded in 1983, and this appears to be the first catalogue the museum produced, featuring the art glass in their collection including Emile Galle, the Daum brothers, Walter, and Rousseau. Beautifully produced. An invaluable resource for novice and scholar alike.
