Publication produced in conjunction with an exhibition of Martha Maria Perez's photographic work held at the Pori Art Museum in Finland June 4 - July 5, 1989. 40pp. replete with the stunning black-and-white photographs of Cuban-born Martha Maria Perez. Bi-lingual text in Finnish and Spanish, includes introductory essays by Osvaldo Sanchez, writer and professor at the University of the Arts, and Maria E. Haya, photographer and Director of the Cuban Photo Archive. Translated by Paivi Sihvonen-Hautecoeur. Include in this catalogue are the 5-photo series "Para Concebir", the 7-photo series "Recuerdos de nuestro bebe", and seven photographs from 1988 titled, "Tolerance", "Prejudices", "Evil Thoughts", "Fear of Death", "Excessive Attention", "Anxiety" and "detail from a former photo". Perez has been known to use Afro-Cuban mythology to explore themes of feminine spirituality, maternity, and womanhood. She is often likened to the magical realists for her use of charms and symbolism to express her experience. Rare, and in beautiful condition.
