Sulter, Maud, Lubaina Himid, Martin Barlow. Wrexham: Wrexham Library Arts Centre, 1994. Welsh, English, Near Fine square 4to, 8 1/4" x 8 1/4" softcover, 40 pp.
ISBN: 0900121963

Near Fine perfectbound exhibition catalog with white matte paper wraps, mild soiling to back panel, otherwise clean, sharp, and tightly bound. Eight full-color plates, text in Welsh and English, essays by Lubaina Himid and the artist. Maud Sulter (1960-2008) was a Ghanaian-Scottish  contemporary fine artist, photographer, writer, educator, feminist, cultural historian, and curator. In these eight collage works, she juxtaposes European tableaus with Ghanaian ceremonial masks, sculptures, and traditional dress, a reimposition that belies the history of colonization. A strong series by a great multi-faceted artist. From the private collection of author and art historian, Whitney Chadwick. Scarce in the trade.
