Published on the occasion of a two-part exhibition that showed at the Pace Gallery in New York and the David Kordansky Gallery in Los Angeles. The exhibition featured the art made by Sam Gilliam during the final years of his life. Sam Gilliam (1933-2022) was an African-American painter who was associated with color field painting, Abstract Expressionism, lyrical abstraction, and the Washington Color School. Much of Gilliam's paintings and mixed-media art from the 1960s-1980s addressed the African-American experience and hardships endured by African Americans. In his later work, Gilliam incorporated unconventional media in his work such as metallic and iridescent acrylics, aluminum, computer-generated images, plastic, plywood, polypropylene, and steel. Text by Lowery Stokes Sims. Published by the Pace Gallery and David Kordansky Gallery. Heavy and oversized items may require additional shipping.
