Leather spine w/ cloth covered beveled boards, gilt stamped title to front panel and spine, blind stamped decoration to front and rear panels. First edition. Black-and-white lithographed illustrations throughout, two color maps (one fold-out). Chipping and tears to spine. Front and back panels starting at head, leather partially separating at tail. Fading to marbled text-block edges, various scuffs and spotting to front panel, wrinkling to first and last pages due to improper folding. All interior pages clean and intact w/ no repairs. Color folding county map is torn at fold but intact and complete. Part of a series of California county histories published by Thompson & West, this volume is filled with details and statistics related to the region as well as numerous large illustrations made from original sketches. Notable homes and public buildings in the area are shown, including the state capitol. A list of illustrations notes residences by owner name. An essential resource for the study of the history of this area. A facsimile reprint edition was produced in 1960. Complete original copies are uncommon.
