The subtitle of this issue is _Untitled 30_, being the 30th issue of _Untitled_, a serial published by the Friends of Photography. _Untitled_ was published between 1972 and 1994. Many installments in the _Untitled_ series were catalogs for exhibitions held at the Friends of Photography gallery in Carmel, California. The Friends of Photography was an organization co-founded by Ansel Adams, among others, in 1967 to promote photography as fine art. The organization held over 300 exhibitions at its Carmel gallery as well as another that opened later in San Francisco. Many noted photographers had their work exhibited at these galleries. The Friends of Photography were active until 2001.
