Finished in 1623, the folio contained 36 of Shakespeare’s plays, 18 of which had never been printed and might have been lost without the publication of the folio. Blayne gives insight to the process behind the publication of the first folio and following copies. Complete with diagrams of the construction and black-and-white photographs of the folio and related documents. Published in conjunction with the exhibition The First Folio of Shakespeare at the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington, D.C. An informed explanation of the history behind the folio that helped preserve Shakespeare’s works and legacy.
