Notes: Near Fine 12mo, Ninth Edition, 950 Copies. Cream paper boards with green Art Nouveau embellishments and overlapping covers along the side edge, a pristine copy aside from some very minor sunning, printed on Japan vellum, some pages unexploded. 33 pp. William Butler Yeats wrote this play, his first, in 1894 when it enjoyed a small run on the stage. It's a fantastic fable about a faery who encounters a newly married couple who mistake her for a child. The faery blasphemes against God, entices the woman to renounce the human world, and draws her into the ethereal realm. It's a questioning of the fragile human constructs with which we bolster ourselves, a comment on parenting, aging, and the afterlife. A truly lovely little volume of Yeats' first theatrical work.
